Sweet encaustic paintings by Susan Najarian
I'm back from my buying trip and am just so giddy about hanging these sweet encaustic paintings by Seattle artist, Susan Najarian. Susan's paintings are created by using many thin layers of wax that attract and refract light. Encaustic is from the ancient Greek word that means to heat. The medium consists of beeswax melted with a small amount of resin to impart hardness.
Using photography as her base, Susan's photos are digitally manipulated and the images then transferred to a wood frame covered in encaustic wax. Layers of wax then suspend the photograph, altering the appearance to produce the cloud like feeling of the medium. The imagery appears to float. Each painting is $68 at Anne Bocci Boutique & gallery. http://annebocciboutique.com
